Honoring Our Veterans

This past weekend, July 7th the lodge honored members that also are Veterans at a luncheon in Brooklyn. The honors went to Martin Kupferberg, Jack Panzer, and Lewis Kustin. We thank them for their service and duty to our country.<br />

Lodge reception for David Ostowski

The Brooklyn Lodge was joined by acting Grand Secretary for the State of NY Tom Buchanan, brothers from Rockville Center #279 and Mineola-Pacific Lodge #125 to give aid to Mr. David Ostrowski, a local coach and mentor who lives with a serious kidney disease. Borough Park's donation to David was met by the Mineola brothers. We all wish him well in his ongoing efforts to live a normal life.<br />

In the event of a member passing away, we gather at our Lodge meeting and call out the member’s name three times. We call in vain, we call in search of an answer. There is no reply for the member has passed away. This is indeed a poignant moment. In the case of Irving Elfie, a member of many decades, there remains a void that cannot readily be filled. Irving was present at all of our meetings and contributed mightily to the on-going strength of Borough Park Lodge 409. Irving remained a rock of financial security and set us on the path to ongoing fiscal security. It was due to Irving’s diligence, that we are able to carry forward the good work we do. In his honor we will re-double our efforts to grow the Lodge, make our presence known in the Community and continue to do our good work.<br />

<b>Holiday Toy Drive:</b> Make plans to join us this December for our annual Toy Drive. Our Holiday Toy Drive begins in earnest this week end. Join us Saturday December 9th at 1 pm at Brookdale Hospital. We meet in the main lobby. On Sunday December 10 we will visit Maimonides Hospital at 12:00 pm. Meet in the main lobby. You will need a Flu shot and paperwork for same. On Saturday December 16 we will visit Winthrop Hospital in Mineola at 12:00 pm. We will be joined by our b/rothers at Mineola Lodge and Santa Clause. We will meet in the main lobby. On Monday December 18 we will visit Coney Island Hospital along with Dr Segal at 10:00 am. We will meet in the main lobby. We will be visiting with the children and their parents and hospital staff to spread some OddFellow Holiday cheer. Most parents don’t have the time or inclination to look for toys. Their concern is their children. We bring a moment of diversion, curiosity, and gets lots of smiles in return. This holiday tradition begun by Sam Gelber and Bernie Sipelstein carries forward the very essence of our creed. Take the time to join us and reap the rewards of a visit to children who would like to be anywhere but where they are. A few moments of your time, makes an enormous difference in their day.
